Choosing a boot style
Fit is undoubtedly the most important factor when selecting a hoof boot, the second most important is to choose a boot style suitable for the type of work the rider wants to do with their horse. General hacking/ schooling/ pleasure riding (upto 25 miles a week)

Endurance/ Long distance rides or races (over 25 miles a week)

Therapeutic Boots / Injury

Jumping/ Hunting/ Eventing
(For competitive use, check rules with the appropriate body) New Mac for shorter distances, Easyboot Epic and Easyboot Glove 2016. Fit is paramount when jumping or working at speed, and overreach boots may be of benefit to help prevent lost or broken boots.
Driving
(For competitive use, check rules with the appropriate body) Most boots are suitable, fit as always being the most important factor coupled with distances (see above).
Hoof protection in case of a lost shoe
Any appropriately sized hoof boot can be used.
Use over metal shoes
New Mac is best suited to this use (but as with any boot, use over metal shoes will void the warranty).
